THREE OLD MONK POEMS (379)

I DON'T BEND

I don't bend over backwards
to read upside down,
the old monk told his students.

~

IF I COULD THROW

If I could throw
a ninety-mile-an-hour fastball,

the old monk said,
I wouldn't be able to

throw my curve.

~

YOU HAVE TO

You have to work out
the deals with yourself

before you can work them
out with the devil,

the old monk said.
