THREE OLD MONK POEMS (334)

IF I TURNED

If I turned my mind
to a single thing

I could write an epic,
the old monk said.

~

IF I COULD

If I could remember,
then I couldn't write --

too much detail,
the old monk admitted.

~

JUST WHEN

Just when you think
it's gone, here comes

another one,
the old monk said.

We'll never get
across the train tracks.

~
