SOME POEMS ARE
Some poems are like
writing upside down and backwards,
the old monk told the poet.

WE DO BASE 12
We do base 12 for time
and base 10 for money,
base 8 for music,
base 6 for half a dozen,
base 4 for music again,
and limbs,
base 2 for computers
and marriage.
That's how we count,
the old monk said.

OFTEN / WHAT
Often
what you find
on the mountain
is not
on the mountain,
the old monk told
his student.
