THREE OLD MONK POEMS (140)

NO, I DON'T

No, I don't live in
a monastery,
the old monk said.

I live in
the roots of a tree.

THE DOOR WON'T

The door doesn't open
when the guest

isn't wanted,
the old monk said.

You can tell by
the rusty hinges.

~

IF YOU GO

If you go
up the mountain,
go all the way
up.

If you come
down the mountain,
come half-
way,

the old monk says.
